Continuing the Collaboration
COVID-19 has drastically affected how EWB operates, accelerating the rate at which our partner organization M-Koko takes the lead role in our education, water and sanitation projects. Our education centered mission has proved durable, our student leaders resilient, and the need in Khwisero never greater.
Tier 1: Overcoming the Digital Divide between Khwisero and Bozeman
The first $3,000 raised in Giving Day 2021 will provide improved and updated technology for M-Koko, our Kenyan partners, to enable collaboration through high-speed internet access in Khwisero. These costs include router and setup costs, 18 months of a data plan, and a laptop. This digital bridge will enable exchange between the students at MSU and members of the Khwisero community. Improved technology will allow for remote implementation of water, sanitation and education projects despite not being able to physically travel abroad.
Tier 2: Formal Collaborations with Mzuzu University in Malawi and Jomo Kenyatta University in Kenya
The next $15,000 fundraised will fund partnerships with Architecture students at Jomo Kenyatta University and the researchers with the Mzuzu University in Malawi’s Sustainable Sanitation Center. International collaborative research enables educational exchange between MSU students and students in Kenya with direct benefit to a partnership between MSU students and students at Jomo Kenyatta University will allow collaborative design of a library at Emwaniro Secondary School. By partnering with the Malawi based Sustainable Sanitation Center, we are able to be a part of cutting edge technical and social sanitation research. These partnerships require funding travel expenses, laboratory equipment, and instructor time.
Tier 3: Advance Project Funding
Our water, sanitation, and infrastructure projects are only possible because of our generous donor community. Your continued support will allow for future projects as well as advancing our partnership with Khwisero. In the future, we aim to continue our technical projects and community development work. Additional funds above tiers one and two will fund projects that will provide significant benefit in Khwisero and to the individuals who interact with the project process.
