The Power of Field Experiences
Field Experiences for our MSU Earth Science Students create opportunities that encourage critical thinking, long-term retention, positive attitudes towards science, appreciation for nature, and increased scientific curiosity.
Field trips and camps facilitate the study of earth processes, earth resources, earth history, and environments. Field Experiences also connect students with future mentors and professionals in the field creating potential job opportunities.
The cost of these Field Experiences presents a barrier for some of our students. Summer field camp fees for Geology and Paleontology students can range from $504- $1,560 per student.
Additionally, transportation for our Geography and GIS Planning students to learn about settlement history and patterns, water resources management, and community sites can be costly.
We are committed to offering our 215 students majoring in Earth Science immersive educational experiences and hope to be able to provide the financial support for all students to participate.
