Bobcat Motorsports: Baja SAE
We need your help to build our most competitive car yet! Building a new vehicle from scratch every year is a costly endeavor which we cannot do without donors and sponsors. Bobcat Motorsports generally spends upwards of $10,000 to build a vehicle, in addition to registration and travel fees for competition.
Students learn valuable engineering skills while designing the vehicle while also getting the hands on experience of working on and driving the vehicle. Aside from the vehicle, students work with sponsors, design graphics, manage projects and learn business skills. Students get to experience the full engineering design cycle from concept to vehicle testing over the course of the year, giving them the experience of working a full project cycle in industry.
Bobcat Motorsports competes in the Baja SAE competition, an international race series held by the Society of Automotive Engineers. We compete against over 100 other teams in multiple events such as design and sales presentations, a four-hour endurance race, hill climb and maneuverability course. This competition tests the skills of our vehicle and driver, straining the vehicle and driver over multiple days of competition. This year we are building car 83, which is looking to be our most competitive car yet, weighing over 100 pounds less than our previous vehicle and featuring four wheel drive. Help us drive to victory this season!
