"Shaping Tomorrow's Built Environment Today"
Our student chapter of ASHRAE is dedicated to raising awareness and educating students about the importance of the built environment. We as a club and society find success through our members' passions and efforts as we strive to "shape tomorrow's built environment today!" To do this our club participates in various outreach events to inspire new students of all levels to become part of the sustainability movement of ASHRAE. So how can we get people excited about the built environment? In years past, we have relied on industry devices and ASHRAE-themed swag such as thermal imaging cameras and 3D printed keychains. Now, we want to take things to the next level!
Introducing The BEST-Bike! (short for Building Energy System Training Bike). Our club project will serve as an inspirational engineering education piece geared towards all ages by allowing users to have a tangible effect on a ventilation system's performance! Funds raised during MSU Giving day will be used to purchase materials to build this student-designed outreach device. BEST-Bike is a human-powered hands-on device that will showcase engineering principals in a fun and interactive way with a specific focus on the various aspects of heating and cooling in the built environment. Help us meet our $1,200 goal to get started on this project!
In the case that we exceed or do not meet our goal, we ensure that your generous contribution will still have a lasting impact on our members! Every year, our club sends a group of students to the ASHRAE Winter Conference where they get to participate in technical presentations as well as interact with industry professionals from all around the world. Attending this 5-day international conference has a huge effect on the careers of our MSU members. From 2019 alone, 83% of the club graduates began full-time ASHRAE-related careers. To send 1 student, it takes around $807 which encompasses Travel, Lodging, Registration, and Food. To put things in perspective, for every $200 raised, a student's lodging can be funded!
The MSU Alumni Foundation will not be providing a charitable gift receipt for these transactions.
