About our 2023 Giving Day project
Support our future study abroad trips for teachers in MSU's College of Education, Health and Human Development (EHHD)! Travelling abroad provides our teachers with a well-rounded education that will benefit them for the rest of their teaching career. It shows them how to operate in a diverse culture, how to work with all different types of students with different learning abilities, and how to be a teacher that connects with their students no matter their background.
Our goals
Study abroad is not something that many students can take part in because of the cost. We are hoping to raise $10,000 to provide scholarships to three students who would otherwise not be able to go. It is important for this project to succeed so that our students can become the best quality teachers that they can be.
This campaign has been generously supported with a $1,000 dollar-for-dollar match. The first $1,000 dollars will be doubled.
About our organization
Karie Orendorrf, a professor in Health Enhancement, has years of experience with study abroad in Africa, and will be the professor taking the students to Tanzania to work with the Maasai Joy Children's Center for 2 weeks in Spring 2023. This group also raises money for the center while they are there. Ann Ellsworth, a professor in Education, will be heading the 1 week trip to Belize during Spring Break 2023.
Why are donations necessary?
If we are successful, we will be able to pay for three students to attend our study abroad trips this spring. It is so important for future teachers to have as many different teaching experiences as possible so that they are able to teach from a place of understanding and connect with students regardless of that student's background. MSU is the foremost teacher licensure unit in Montana and being able to graduate quality teachers would positively impact MSU and Montana.
