About our 2023 Giving Day project
We want to inspire performance opportunities for pianists at MSU by renovating the Leigh Lounge piano and turning the space into a weekend stage for student musicians. The Steinway is an excellent piano, but it needs a touch-up by an experienced piano technician to improve the action and tone.
Our goals
We hope to raise $6,000 to fully renovate the Steinway B grand piano in Leigh Lounge. As one of the only pianos on campus accessible to non-music majors, we are working on a regular weekend concert schedule to open the piano for students of all levels. This project is the first step in our community engagement initiative, where we support students in continuing their piano studies while going through college. We are limited by space, as not many campus buildings and rooms are suitable to house pianos accessible to students. This project is our first step into making piano performance readily accessible for all students.
About our organization
We are a group of student musicians who seek to create a social and performance space for fellow pianists. We strive to provide master classes, scholarships, performance opportunities, and social gatherings to inexperienced and experienced pianists alike. Our club was founded in January of 2020 and our roots are here at Montana State University.

The piano is one of the fundamental instruments for Western music. Renovating the piano in Leigh Lounge will not only benefit the students who play it, but also allow for other instruments to play with accompanists in the space. Similar to the Friday Pop-Up concerts at Norm, we hope that we can inspire a similar movement where students have performance opportunities in Leigh Lounge on the weekends.
