About our 2023 Giving Day project

New first-year students in the Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship need YOUR support. At Jabs, we seek to make that critical first year of the college experience inspiring and supportive as we help our new students understand the value of their business degree. Your donation will create the opportunity for new business majors to participate in highly engaging experiences that will lead to brighter futures. Opportunities for meaningful engagement include access to real-world professional development and outside-the-classroom educational experiences. Our efforts will emphasize to students the value of their college degree and encourage them to spend their time at MSU building a competitive edge that better prepares them for life after graduation.

Our goals

Our fundraising goal of $5,000 during MSU Giving Day will provide one year’s worth of critical engagement opportunities for new first-year Jabs students.

About our organization

The Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship consists of a group of passionate faculty and staff dedicated to supporting student academic success, sense of belonging and fostering an atmosphere of engagement.

Why are donations necessary?

Each year, Jabs is home to roughly 500 new first-year students that come from across the country and the world. Some are certain they want to study business while others aren’t sure if college is right for them. The transition from high school to college can be intimidating. The purpose of this project is to raise funds to provide meaningful engagement opportunities early in the first year to help ease the transition from high school to college, build a sense of belonging to Jabs, and anchor our new students to MSU.

Here are examples of how your contributions would support our Jabs first-year student experiences:

• Onboarding and engagement opportunities designed to integrate new students into the Jabs culture. Programs are informal and outside the classroom such as Welcome Tents on the first day of classes, meals with Professors, and donuts & coffee with the Dean.

• Jabs First-year Expo – An open house-style event for new Jabs first-year students to connect with the college, explore engagement opportunities such as internships, study abroad and student clubs, explore support resources, and mostly importantly meet faculty and learn what it means to be a Jabs student.

• Jabs Career Crawl – Similar to the First-year Expo in format, but laser-focused on the value of internships and career opportunities and designed to help students reaching the mid-point of their college careers envision their professional futures.

• Jabs Mentoring Program – sometimes advice can best be heard peer-to-peer, so we connect our first-year students with high quality, highly trained peer mentors to help them along their college journey.

• Internships, externships, job shadows and mentorships - connecting students with industry partners to help them realize the value of the college degree first-hand.
