About our 2023 Giving Day project

At Gallatin College, we hold classes in over seven different locations spread across the entire Gallatin Valley. Most of these locations are not accessible by public transportation or within walking/biking distance of public transportation stops. Many of our Gallatin College students do not have reliable transportation and/or struggle to afford the cost of fuel to get to class. This academic year, over 50 new students identified as not having their own means of reliable transportation. As the cost-of-living increases, many students are forced to choose between paying for essentials like rent and food versus paying for transportation.

Our goals

With your Giving Day donation, we plan to establish a transportation fund for students who need assistance obtaining reliable ways get to classes - despite the weather, economy, or distance. Funds may be used to pay for public transportation (like Uber), ride shares, gas cards, or assistance with repairs to an existing mode of transportation. Please join us in achieving our fundraising goal of $5,000 to help students get to class.

About our organization

Gallatin College students are brilliant, resilient, and hardworking. Most Gallatin College students work to pay for their tuition and living costs.  Many of our students have families, and too many have needs that are unseen and go unmet. Transportation is one of those needs that many students don’t immediately identify as a barrier to attending class, but becomes a challenge given our numerous locations.

Your gift will have an impact

We know that students who regularly attend class are more successful in their endeavors. Raising these funds will help students who face transportation barriers to instead attend their classes consistently. Regular attendance means students are able to learn more, engage in concepts discussion, connect with their peers and instructors, and be persistent with training and practicing hands-on skills. This leads to better student retention and graduation rates and produces graduates who are better prepared to become employees in our community.
