About our 2023 Giving Day project

Collegiate Woolgrowers (CWG) is a newly revived club at MSU. We are excited to send a team of four students to compete at national collegiate wool judging contests this spring! In 2023, we also look forward to attending the annual Montana Wool Growers Association Convention. By funding travel to these events, you are supporting future leaders in sustainable food and fiber production.

Our goals

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund the upcoming year’s travel, lodging, and meals for several national wool judging competitions and the Montana Wool Growers Convention. This is supplemental to our effort to cultivate a cash reserve, which will sustain activities for years to come. Costs associated with competing in the Black Hills, National Western Stock Show, University of Wyoming’s 7220, and the San Antonio Stock Show wool judging competitions are approximately $7,200. This would cover travel expenses for four team members and two coaches. To attend the 2023 Montana Wool Grower’s Convention, we anticipate $2,000 in expenses for eight members and two advisors.

This campaign has been generously supported with a $500 dollar-for-dollar match. The first $500 dollars will be doubled.

About our organization

CWG is a newly revived club on campus within the College of Agriculture. We are excited to uphold and sustain Montana’s sheep heritage and legacy. We are an educational and team club with members who are interested in the sheep industry. Members develop knowledge and leadership skills in the sheep and wool industries by participating in hands-on, real-world activities. Entering our second year, we are pleased with the club’s strength and direction. The Montana Wool Growers Association’s support is foundational to the growth and success we have seen with our club’s revival.

Why are donations necessary?

If successful, the wool judging team will have hands-on wool classing and networking experiences to further careers in the sheep and wool industry. By attending the Montana Wool Growers Association Convention, the team and other club members will learn from and make connections with producers and industry affiliates. By providing opportunities for CWG members to actively engage in immersive experiences, we are cultivating an environment of participation and involvement at MSU. As a result, individuals outside of CWG will be more likely to engage in organizations associated with their personal interests.
