About our 2023 Giving Day project

We at Big Sky Sun Esports have always tried to foster a community and space for people on campus to escape the stresses of school and make friends through the video game medium. In turn we have been blessed with not just an active community, but an enthusiastic competitive team and fan base. With our project we are seeking to give back to that community and build a stronger foundation for our competitive teams to succeed in an expanding industry. Our focus is to intertwine the video game community with their education in a significant manner and use it to encourage current and future students to use video games as a way to further their education.

Our goals

Big Sky Sun Esports has aspirations for funding for our competitive teams and for this project we are hoping to start the foundation for this funding as well as giving back to the community that has created our success. We are aiming for a $500 starting point as this would allow us to run ten events with a $50 prize pool. This will help get more attention to our events as well as giving back to the community. We would also like to seek $100 beyond that for gear for our varsity teams that will allow them to practice and compete on campus. Currently we are reaching out to sponsors for this funding however this will take time to get started. This project has the potential to create a foundation for our competitive teams to be recognized and sponsored by the school directly.

About our organization

Big Sky Sun Esports (or BSSE) was created in 2016 by a group of 5 students as a means to compete in the collegiate circuit of a Video Game called League of Legends. Since its founding almost 7 years ago it has expanded to support both competitive and casual experiences in multiple titles including, but not limited to Overwatch 2, Valorant, Rocket League, Rainbow6 Siege, and Super Smash Brothers all of which have huge communities nationally respectively. Our members are predominantly students and alumni though our community does include people who are not associated with Montana State University at all. We are an official club through MSU and we seek to be a community that makes students proud to attend Montana State University.

Why are donations necessary?

If we succeed in securing this funding primarily our student community will benefit from more attendance at events and a prize that will be a boost to many to students. Beyond that our competitive teams will benefit from having some of the same structures that opposing schools have provided to their teams. Both of these benefits will give us more visibility in the Bozeman community and national attention that will benefit MSU by providing a new demographic of students: Gamers
